DAVOS, SWITZERLAND – In case you missed it, Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin shared a special moment on stage at the Davos World Economic Forum. They high-fived over their shared history of defending the filibuster. Take a watch:
As a reminder, because of the filibuster that Sinema championed, the Senate was blocked from:
- passing voting rights legislation, including John Lewis’s namesake bill and restoring the Voting Rights Act
- restoring Roe v. Wade and protecting abortion rights
- passing immigration reform
- banning assault weapons and passing universal background checks
- other priorities that couldn’t be accomplished outside the reconciliation process
“Sinema has always been and will always be all about Sinema. She doesn’t care who her policies hurt. She doesn’t care that she stood in the way of voting rights and abortion rights, as long as she got the headlines she wanted. Now, she’s on stage in Switzerland, in front of an audience of billionaires and Wall Street CEOs, bragging about her obstruction and giving high fives. It’s no wonder she’s so unpopular among Arizonans of every political stripe.” – Sacha Haworth, spokesperson for the Replace Sinema campaign
