We don’t yet know the results for tomorrow’s election, but regardless of whether or not Democrats can secure, or even increase, their majority in the Senate, our plans to primary Kyrsten Sinema in 2024 won’t change.
Here are a few thoughts we wanted to make sure are on your radar, regardless of how Democrats perform tomorrow night:
- Kyrsten Sinema did next to nothing to help Democrats win, either in her home state or to save the Senate.
- This has made Sinema a fan favorite among Republicans, including Mitch McConnell, Ted Cruz, and Ron Johnson, and most recently Blake Masters.
- Mitch McConnell, the NRSC, and Blake Masters regularly used Sinema’s own words and positions to attack Mark Kelly.
- While Democrats were out campaigning, Sinema was making speeches at Mitch McConnell’s vanity center, shopping in Paris, and doubling down on her support of the filibuster.
- Along with Joe Manchin, Sinema spent the last two years curtailing President Biden’s agenda — limiting the positive impact that Democrats could make on people’s lives, and depriving Democrats of important legislative victories.
- (And on the accomplishments that Democrats *were* able to get done, Sinema often caused needless delays and muddled the message.)
- Sinema’s embrace of the filibuster prevented Democrats from passing voting rights legislation — allowing GOP-held state legislatures to weaken voting rights. Arizona has been at the epicenter of GOP attacks on voting rights.
- Sinema’s filibuster support also prevented Democrats from codifying Roe v Wade and passing a host of important legislative priorities — and is why Democrats needed to rely on the limits of the reconciliation process.
For those reasons and many more, Kyrsten Sinema deserves to be primaried in 2024. If Democrats pull off victories tomorrow night, it will be despite her. If Democrats lose, it will be, in no small part, because of her.
We’ll be full steam ahead to Primary Sinema in 2024.
