We Guess She Treats Republicans Better Than Everyone Else
ARIZONA – Kyrsten Sinema is barely lifting a finger to help her fellow Arizona Senator Mark Kelly get re-elected, so it’s no wonder that Kelly’s Republican opponent Blake Masters is a big fan of hers. (He joins Mitch McConnell, Ted Cruz, and Ron Johnson, all of whom have recently sung Sinema’s praise.)
Here’s the best part of Masters’ praise of Sinema: “She’s really actively engaged. And I hear this from Republicans — if you got a problem you call Sinema’s office you get a response.”
That’s quite surprising, given what prominent Democrats, Sinema’s own constituents, and even members of the press have to say about Sinema’s responsiveness and accessibility. We guess Sinema just treats Republicans better than everyone else.
- Arizona Democrats are facing some of the toughest and most consequential races in the country, yet Sinema’s been MIA from the campaign trail: “The MAGA extremist slate could do well in Arizona on Nov. 8,” said Chris Herstam, a state lawmaker and former Supporter of Sinema’s who has since become a vocal critic. “But Kyrsten Sinema could care less.””
- In an interview in August, Arizona gubernatorial candidate Katie Hobbs said she had not heard from Sinema about her Governor’s campaign.
- The chair of the Pima Area Labor Federation once said: “Outside of calling her general office number, I don’t know how to get ahold of this woman.”
- President Joe Biden expressed exasperation at Sinema for being unavailable at high-pressure moments and “contended that Sinema didn’t always return calls from the White House.”
- Arizona Wins, a coalition of 32 progressive advocacy organizations who registered nearly 200,000 new voters and knocked on more than two million doors in support of Ms. Sinema’s, said Sinema has not once met with the group or its partners since taking office in 2019
- “Senator Sinema has ignored us and all the people who fought hardest to elect her for years,” LUCHA communications manager César Fierros said. “She’s denied our requests, ignored our phone calls, and closed her office to her constituents. She hasn’t had a public event or town hall in years.”
- Sinema went YEARS without holding a town hall meeting for her constituents.
- Senate Leader Chuck Schumer said Sinema “often” misses Democratic caucus meetings – including during pivotal negotiation moments.
- Sinema was the only Democrat absent from a dinner hosted by Vice President Kamala Harris for women of the Senate.
- Sinema has even ignored her own constituents when they are speaking directly to her face.
- Sinema “rarely takes questions from the press or her constituents, whether they try to buttonhole her on airplanes or in the bathroom. She doesn’t ham it up with the press like Manchin.”
