Replace Sinema

IN WAKE OF SINEMA’S DESTRUCTIVE PRO-FILIBUSTER SPEECH, PRIMARY SINEMA PROJECT ANNOUNCES LARGEST GRASSROOTS FUNDRAISING DAY EVER

In Just Over 100 Days of Existence, Primary Sinema Project Has Raised More Than $250,000 from 10,000 Grassroots Donors… $28K Yesterday AloneProject Released Memo Yesterday In Response to Sinema’s “Illogical Reasoning”
Phoenix — Yesterday, the Primary Sinema Project received its strongest single-day grassroots fundraising haul to date — immediately following Senator Sinema’s destructive and illogical defense of the filibuster on the Senate floor.

Following Sinema’s speech, the Project released a memo rebutting Sinema’s dubious claims about the merits of the filibuster and making clear the political consequences of her obstruction. The memo was co-written with Adam Jentleson of Battle Born Collective, who literally wrote the book on the filibuster.

“In an evenly divided Senate, no one benefits from Sinema’s obstruction more than Senator Mitch McConnell,” the memo stated. It continued: “By obstructing Biden’s agenda and shifting power to McConnell, Sinema is undermining [Senator Mark] Kelly’s ability to deliver for Arizonans, hurting his chances at re-election – as well as Democrats’ chances of holding their majorities.”

Grassroots fundraising for the Primary Sinema Project now totals more than $250,000 — ($255,000 as of this writing) — from nearly 10,000 unique small-dollar donors — barely 100 days into existence.

More than $28,000 of that total — representing more than 10% of the program’s total grassroots fundraising to date — came from 1,200 small-dollar donors in the immediate aftermath of Sinema’s speech.

The project’s average contribution amount is $17.35. More than 1,000 of the project’s donors live in Arizona.

In another example of the speech’s impact on grassroots energy: the Primary Sinema Project’s Twitter account increased by 25,000 followers — a nearly 500% jump — in the hours after the speech. Before speech: 6,400 followers. This morning: 31,000 (and continuing to rise).

“Arizonans and Democrats across the country are damn angry — and they should be,” said Luis Avila, a spokesperson for the Primary Sinema Project. “Senator Sinema has aligned herself with Mitch McConnell in defense of the Jim Crow filibuster, tanking the voting rights legislation that bears John Lewis’s name. Meanwhile, she continues to obstruct President Biden’s agenda and is hurting Democrats’ chances up and down the ballot, including her own colleague Mark Kelly.”

The Primary Sinema Project, a project of Change for Arizona 2024 PAC, was launched on September 30, 2021, with the backing of Way to Win. Way to Win is a network of donors and organizers that launched in 2017 to oust Donald Trump and funded a $110 million plan in 2020 that primarily focused on the South and Southwest with significant resources going to Arizona and Georgia. The fund has since supported Arizona political organizations and campaigns, as well as primary challengers against other corporate Democrats.

The Primary Sinema Project has no plans to support a particular primary challenger. Rather, money raised will go to support grassroots groups on the ground in Arizona who led the fight to turn Arizona blue over the course of the last decade and are leading the fight to hold Sinema accountable, making the case that it’s time for change, and helping to lay the foundation for a successful primary campaign when a strong challenger emerges.

Over the coming weeks and months, the Primary Sinema Project will aim to harness this dissatisfaction and growing grassroots energy to hold Sen. Sinema accountable to the voters who elected her.
