Yesterday, Daily Beast reporter Roger Sollenberger reported that Sen. Kyrsten Sinema raked in more than $180,000 from the crypto industry in the second quarter of 2021—more than 10% of her total fundraising in the quarter—and then changed her mind on an infrastructure bill amendment she’d co-sponsored. In response to this reporting, the Primary Sinema Project is releasing the following statement: “Senator Sinema was elected to serve the people of Arizona, not special interests and donors lining her pockets. From working to scrap tax increases on corporations and the super wealthy to this, Arizonans deserve better — and Sinema deserves a primary challenge.” Read the whole thread here. In the Twitter thread, Sollenberger reveals that Sinema held a fundraiser for the industry ahead of a vote on her own amendment that the crypto industry took issue with. Just over two weeks later, Sinema, and other senators, released a statement announcing opposition to the very amendment Sinema had co-sponsored. Sollenberger adds that the crypto VC firm Andreessen Horowitz held a fundraiser for Sinema in California over the summer at which Sinema raked in tens of thousands of dollars from investors. This firm had previously said that Sinema’s amendment would be a “stunning loss for America.” |
