Replace Sinema

NEWS: President Biden Shines a Spotlight on Sinema’s Defense of Ultra-Wealthy and Corporations Over Arizona Families

Phoenix — Last night at his CNN town hall, President Biden revealed that Senator Sinema told him “she will not raise a single penny in taxes on the corporate side and/or on wealthy people. Period.” Biden’s comments come two days after the Wall Street Journal reported that Sen. Sinema told lobbyists she opposes any increase in tax rates on wealthy individuals, capital gains, or corporations.

Sinema’s position has thrown a wrench in negotiations, as the rollback of Donald Trump’s 2017 tax cuts was previously seen as key to paying for Biden’s Build Back Better plan.

President Biden also revealed that Sen. Sinema opposes expanding Medicare to cover dental, vision, and hearing, and alluded to her opposition to free community college.

“Senator Sinema has blocked President Biden’s agenda at every turn. And now, the President has said out loud what we already knew—that she’s the primary obstacle to passing his agenda,” the Primary Sinema Project said in a statement. “In her race to become Big Pharma’s best ally, Senator Sinema has become President Biden’s greatest thorn. If she doesn’t change her ways fast and support the agenda that President Biden won on—the agenda Arizonans need—she will be primaried. Period. After all, if you talk like a Republican, vote like a Republican, and get criticized by the President like a Republican, can you really still call yourself a Democrat?”

The provisions that Sinema is blocking are widely popular with her own constituents. In fact, a recent Data for Progress poll found that Arizona voters support increasing taxes on the wealthiest earners by a margin of 53%. Therefore, Sinema’s obstruction is not only bad policy, it is also political malpractice.
