Replace Sinema

ICYMI: THE MESSENGER: SINEMA RAKES IN CASH FROM GOP MEGADONORS

The same GOP donors who fund attack ads against Democrats are maxing out to Sinema’s reelection campaign

Today The Messenger reports on Kyrsten Sinema’s third quarter fundraising numbers, and they’re rife with donations from huge Republican mega donors.

Sinema took $197,400 from GOP donors between transfers from her leadership committee and individual contributions to her campaign. These donors support Republican candidates and causes, their donation history outlining thousands given to the Senate Leadership Fund, the super PAC aligned with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and responsible for spending millions on negative attack ads against Sinema’s former Democratic colleagues and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Additionally, Nazi memorabilia collector and Clarence Thomas donor Harlan Crow donated once again this quarter, as did a former pornographer, anti-Semite, and scam artist known as “Evil Elmo.” Evil Elmo, whose real name is Adam Sandler, has given over $1200 to Sinema.

This quarter, each one of the GOP donors below has maxed out to Sinema:

  • Harlan Crow has spent millions funding GOP candidates and causes, including a $500,000 contribution to Congressional Leadership Fund in 2018, $250,000 to Senate Leadership Fund in 2020, and another $200,000 to CLF in 2021. A ProPublica investigation recently exposed Crow’s relationship with Justice Clarence Thomas.
  • Marc Stern has given millions to GOP candidates and committees, including $800,000 to Senate Leadership Fund since 2017, $175,000 to Congressional Leadership Fund, and over $300,000 to the Republican National Committee.
  • Eva Stern has given generously to Republicans, including $125,000 to Trump Victory, as well tens of thousands to the RNC, NRCC, NRSC and the McCarthy Victory Fund.
  • William Duhamel has backed GOP senate efforts with over $700,000 since 2018, in addition to various other republican candidates and committees.
  • David Solomon, Chairman of Goldman Sachs, is a major supporter of Republican candidates and causes, including putting over $73,000 behind House Republican efforts since 2017 in addition to backing various other GOP candidates including Tim Scott’s presidential campaign.
  • I. Michael Kasser is a major GOP donor, having contributed at least $185,000 to Americans For Prosperity since 2018, in addition to tens of thousands to other republican candidates.
  • Allan Keen is a major GOP donor who gave $135,000 to support Trump, over $125,000 to the RNC, and over $120,000 to the NRSC.
  • Greg Maffei has spent hundreds of thousands funding GOP campaigns including $100,000 to Senate Leadership Fund in 2019 and $100,000 to Security Is Strength PAC, supporting Lindsey Graham, among other republicans.
  • Dwight Manley has contributed hundreds of thousands to Republican candidates, including $36,000 to the NRSC, another $36,500 to Take Back The Senate, over $80,000 supporting Adam Laxalt’s senate candidacy, and nearly $10,000 backing Ron DeSantis for president.
  • A. Scott Anderson has spent hundreds of thousands backing Republicans including over $35,000 to the NRCC, and thousands backing various Utah republicans.

The Messenger: Sinema Rakes in Cash from GOP Megadonors

Matt Holt | October 19, 2023
As she weighs a reelection bid, Independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema has garnered support from big-money donors who have given thousands of dollars to Republican committees over the past few election cycles.

[…] But her third-quarter fundraising report revealed that she is pulling from a shrinking base of donors, and has turned to soliciting donations from GOP donors who have funded Republican attacks against her Democratic colleagues in recent years. Sinema raised just under $826,000 in the third quarter, spanning July through September. She has seen a downtick each quarter this year, raising $2.1 million in the first quarter and $1.6 million in the second quarter.

[…] Between transfers from her leadership committee and individual contributions to her campaign, Sinema raised $197,400 from GOP donors who have given thousands of dollars over the years to Republican candidates and causes. Many of these donors have given thousands of dollars to the Senate Leadership Fund, the super PAC aligned with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and the main vehicle for GOP attack ads against Democratic Senate candidates. SLF spent around $17 million opposing Sinema back in 2018.

[…]Harlan Crow, a conservative mega donor who has been under scrutiny since a ProPublica investigation revealed his close relationship with Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, donated $1,200 to Sinema this quarter. He’s donated $6,600, the maximum amount, to Sinema this election cycle.

Crow has donated $725,000 to the Senate Leadership Fund. He also donated $500,000 to the Congressional Leadership Fund, the main House GOP super PAC, in 2018.

Marc Stern, the chairman of TCW Group, an asset management firm with approximately $200 billion in assets under management, has donated the maximum amount to Sinema. Stern has given $800,000 to the Senate Leadership Fund since 2017 and has donated over $300,000 to the Republican National Committee. His wife, Eva, has also donated the maximum amount to Sinema.
