Senator Tommy Tuberville finally backed down on his holdup of hundreds of military nominations, proving Kyrsten Sinema’s “middle ground” strategy and attempt to undermine the rights of women servicemembers wrong.
In fact, the Pentagon soundly rejected Sinema’s calls for the Biden Administration to compromise with Tuberville. Instead, the White House’s strategy of standing strong in the face of Tuberville’s unprecedented attack on the military proved correct all along – and ultimately it was Tuberville’s Republican colleagues, not Sinema, who forced Tuberville to back down after he spent months undermining America’s military readiness.
While trying to insert herself into the battle between Tuberville and the Pentagon over abortion policy, Sinema said the Biden administration should find “middle ground” with the staunchly anti-abortion Tuberville. She further angered female veterans and pro-choice advocates by speaking in favor of “the authority and the right of any United States senator” to obstruct military promotions instead of standing up for the rights of women.
“Sinema spent months placating her friend “Coach” and his attacks on the military, telling the Pentagon and the Administration to back down,” said Sacha Haworth, spokesperson for Replace Sinema. “It speaks volumes that she was willing to sell out both abortion rights and our troops in order to take credit for a political win. In the end, President Biden and Secretary Austin were right not to compromise.”
