NEW: 14 ARIZONA GROUPS FILE COMPLAINT WITH SENATE ETHICS COMMITTEE ABOUT SINEMA’S USE OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS ON PRIVATE PLANES

“Senator Sinema has a demonstrated penchant for living the high life on other people’s dimes.”

Today a list of 14 Arizona organizations filed a complaint with the Senate Ethics Committee urging an investigation into Kyrsten Sinema’s use of more than $200,000 in taxpayer money on private planes. As first reported by NOTUS, the complaint spells out Sinema’s frequent and disturbing “penchant for living the high life on other people’s dimes” and urges the Ethics Committee to conduct a formal investigation into Sinema’s spending habits.

Groups signing the complaint include VetsForward, Living United for Change in Arizona (LUCHA), Mi Familia Vota, and the National Organization of Women AZ Chapter.

“Since she was elected, Kyrsten Sinema has put her own comfort, convenience, and personal life ahead of the needs of Arizonans. And when she diverts her taxpayer-funded office budget to fund private luxury air travel, Arizonans pay the price,” stated the groups. “Arizonans like us are subsidizing Kyrsten Sinema’s sports, wine and travel hobbies; funding her expensive meals and hotel stays; and even paying her friends. We insist that she be reined in, and held to the same standards as any other Senator.”

The complaint references several egregious examples:

  • “A single private charter flight between Washington, D.C. and Arizona on August 8, 2023 cost the taxpayers an astonishing $50,000 — more than 33 times the cost of a first-class round-trip ticket to Phoenix on American Airlines. The trip wasn’t an emergency; she flew to Arizona to participate in a bill-signing ceremony that was on President Biden’s schedule.”
  • “Ordinary Arizonans would never consider chartering a plane to travel from Phoenix to Prescott, which are only about two hours’ driving time apart. But Senator Sinema did: in 2022 she spent $9,400 for a private plane to take her from Phoenix to Prescott and Flagstaff and back.”

The letter also points out that concerns around Sinema’s abuse of taxpayer money – as well as her overall lavish spending habits – are not new. Last year, more than a dozen groups filed another complaint to the Ethics Committee about Sinema’s abuse of her office staff

Separately, on the campaign side, the Change for Arizona 2024 PAC filed an FEC complaint against Sinema stemming from her abuse of donor funds, including trips to Europe, stays at resorts and spas, and meals at Michelin Star restaurants with seemingly little to no legitimate campaign purpose.

Sinema has also been under fire from a conservative group that filed a complaint about her official disclosure practices.
